What you need

cup barley

tbsp thyme

bay leaves

tbsp soy sauce

tbsp tomato paste

yellow onion

lb chuck roast
Instructions
1: Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a Dutch oven on medium high heat. 2: Brown the chuck roast on all sides, then remove meat from the pot. 3: Lower heat to medium and add 1 tbsp of oil, then add onion, carrot, celery, and garlic. 4: Cook until softened, approximately 5 minutes. 5: Add tomato paste, beef broth, soy sauce, seasonings, and bay leaves. 6: Bring to a boil, then cover and cook for 60 minutes. 7: After 60 minutes, add barley and cook uncovered for an additional 30 minutes. 8: Serve warm and enjoy!View original recipe
